There are a lot of factors to consider when one decides to choose a restaurant to eat at.  The purpose of the grading system is to allow both the restaurant owner and consumer to be on even ground in regards to health.  It also helps to eliminate one factor when someone thinks of their possibilities for establishments to eat at.  The institution of a health grading system for restaurants in Los Angeles County has had a positive effect on the the restaurants and the consumers.  Four main points are summarized below:

1)  It allows the consumer to be informed of the restaurants health standard and to make an educated decision of where they are comfortable to dine at.

2)  It has improved public health by reducing food-borne illness in the county.

3)  It encourages restaurants to improve their health standards with its potential to increase revenue.

4)  It allows restaurants to report on their health standards and attract customers.



There are three final points to consider when one decides to support this policy:   

  1. It will continue to improve and do what Los Angeles County feels is ethically right, which is for restaurants to be honest and fair to the consumers.  
  2. Ultimately it's about improving public health, which is one of the many concerns of any body of government and family who wants to avoid illness.
  3. This Policy is necessary to improve public health and the quality of restaurants in Los Angeles County.
